Tacit, a UCL spin-off by Greek researchers, secures investment to commercialise Agentic AI Digital Twins for Smart Buildings

Athens, 4 March 2026 – Tacit, a deep-tech spin-off from University College London founded by Greek researchers, has secured a pre-seed investment to accelerate the commercial rollout of its AI-powered Digital Twin platform for smart buildings. Corallia Ventures has invested €300.000 as part of the round led by UK-based Haatch Ventures.

Tacit is building what it calls “the brain of the built world”: a semantic AI infrastructure that enables buildings to autonomously detect, diagnose and resolve inefficiencies in real time. Unlike traditional dashboard-based energy management tools, Tacit deploys multi-agent AI systems that monitor building operations 24/7, identify root causes, and trigger corrective actions automatically.

From 10 Years of Research to Real-World Impact

Tacit’s technology is rooted in more than a decade of deep-tech research at UCL, supported by £35M in competitive research grants. The company has translated peer-reviewed academic breakthroughs in semantic modelling and knowledge graphs into a scalable commercial platform.

The platform integrates with over 30 building data protocols, transforms fragmented data into a machine-interpretable knowledge graph, and deploys AI agents trained once and deployed instantly across portfolios, with implementation measured in days rather than months.

Addressing a $114B Global Market Opportunity

Tacit operates in a rapidly expanding smart building market valued at $114B globally, growing at approximately 28% CAGR. Across the UK, EU and US alone, the immediate Serviceable Available Market exceeds $27B, covering more than 18 billion sqm of commercial floor area. With 85% of buildings that will exist in 2050 already built and largely inefficient, the retrofit opportunity is significant.

In pilot deployments, Tacit has already demonstrated measurable impact:

  • 10-30% reduction in energy costs
  • 10-100x faster diagnostics and resolution
  • 7-20% increase in portfolio value through lower OpEx and stronger ESG performance

In pilot projects in London, Tacit unlocked £270k in annual savings at a UCL building and delivered 18% annual energy reduction in a 42,500 sqm commercial property.

Dr. Dimitris Mavrokapnidis, Co-Founder & CEO of Tacit, commented:

“This investment marks an important milestone for Tacit as it allows us to further strengthen the scientific and technological depth of our solution. Backed by Corallia Ventures’ experience in scaling research-driven technologies and Haatch Ventures’ international network for long-term growth, we are now well-positioned to accelerate product development and bring our technology to a broader market.”

Prof. Dimitrios Rovas, Co-Founder & CTO of Tacit, added:

“We spent a decade developing the semantic infrastructure that enables AI to reason over complex building systems. Tacit is the commercial realisation of that vision, moving beyond dashboards to true operational autonomy. With our investors’ support, we are strengthening our R&D presence in Greece while expanding our commercial footprint across the UK and Europe.”

Dr. Nikos Vogiatzis, Partner at Corallia Ventures, stated:

“Tacit represents the new generation of Greek deep-tech companies: rooted in world-class research, globally ambitious, and with a clear pathway to real-world impact. We are excited to back Tacit as it scales its AI technology for smart buildings internationally and look forward to working closely with its exceptional team.”

Dr. William Mortimore, UCLB Head of Cleantech, commented:

“Tacit is a strong example of how UCL’s world-leading research can be translated into scalable, real-world impact. Built on more than a decade of academic work in intelligent building systems, the company addresses critical challenges around energy efficiency and sustainability. UCL Business is proud to support the Tacit team as they bring this deep tech innovation to the global market.”

Next steps and global potential

The newly secured funds will enable Tacit to:

  • Expand enterprise deployments across UK and Greece.
  • Launch its “Tacit Agentic AI” platform commercially.
  • Grow its engineering and commercial teams.
  • Target £1M in annual recurring revenue within three years.
